After more than a year of rehearsals and concerts, and the release of their debut track Shashamanee on the “Reggaeville” Youtube channel, Alpha D and The Soul Band need the human and material resources to record their 11-track debut album together.

At the source of Alpha D’s work

“With my multi-ethnic roots, my songs are an expression of my affection for humanity and its diversity. I express my attachment to the African continent and to the Rastafari culture. Inspired by Dub-poetry, Ragga Hip-Hop and by the great voices of traditional African and oriental music, I explore a multitude of themes in English as well as in French within this style that I call Reggae - Fusion. "

"This new album, whose title will not be revealed until its release, will be the perfect opportunity for me to compose and record, for the first time, in collaboration with African musicians. Indeed, being of Rastafarian faith and the son of an Egyptian father, Africa is at the heart of my artistic exploration. This album will therefore be a meeting between Alpha’s militant Roots with the unique style of traditional Beninese music. "

Some members of the group have been playing with Alpha D since October 2019 (Apollinaire (bass guitar), Amos (drums / arrangements), Xavier (percussion) and great friendships have been forged making this album a collective creation in which the new members of the group also get involved with a lot of creativity and joy.

A special effort has been made in the use of the French language to ensure that audiences in Benin, Quebec and France, who make up a large part of Alpha D fans, can fully enjoy the lyrics.

"Indeed, I aim to spark conversations around the themes that I explore, themes that in my opinion are not sufficiently addressed in the sphere of public debate. To give you an idea without revealing any surprises, the song Gao au Mali, for example, speaks with tact and delicacy of the painful theme of Jihadism in the Sahel, Gardiens de la Terre call us to become defenders of the environment or even Humanité je t’aime celebrates the beauty of humanity in its diversity. "

In addition to doing regular concerts, Alpha D is involved in many cultural and popular events in Benin as a DJ and as a student involved in the promotion of the cooperative economy.

Even though the lyrics are written by Alpha D, the musicians compose their instrumental parts and participate in the arrangement making this album a true artistic collaboration whose copyright and sales revenues will be shared equally by all.

A grant application was made to the Canada Council of Arts but the Covid context having slowed everything down, the group decided to do this crowdfunding campaign to allow them to start recording, while waiting to receive other funding.

“Since this is our first campaign, we thought it wise to ask for 2,000 Euros, which is the minimum budget needed to ensure that each participant can receive a small amount for their participation. As this first objective is exceeded, the remuneration of artists will increase proportionally! "

Scenario 2 (with 3000 Euros) : 30 € /musician/song, 45 €/song for studio recording and 45 €/song for mixing. Scenario 3 (with 4000 Euros) : 40 €/musician/song, 60 Euros/song for studio recording and 60 €/song for mixing.

The professional mastering of the album will be borne by Alpha D’s own funds.
